76% of GPs believe there has been a negative impact on patient’s health
64% felt there has been a rise in excess alcohol use
38% believe smokers are giving up as a result of the cost of smoking
62% identify an increase in Disability Living Allowance applications based on financial distress rather than health need
60% consider patient’s are cancelling sporting activities to save money
54% think patient’s are cancelling sporting activities to due to work pressures
34% believe people are putting of starting a family until the financial situation improves
17% feel that requests for abortions are financially driven
77% identify an increase in mental health conditions of which 54% believed the rise was in anxiety and 46% thought it was an increase in depression
35% think there has been an increase in new cases of irritable bowel syndrome
In terms of the impact on the work of GPs:
83% said the impact of austerity Britain has impacted on their practice
96% said that dealing with mental health conditions requires longer appointments
60% of GPs say they are working longer hours
59% feel treatments for the conditions detailed are insufficient
59% find it hard to refer patients to services better able to treat them.
